UNDERSTANDING FRAGRANCE NOTES
TOP NOTES
Also known as head or opening notes are what smell immediately after spraying your perfume or aftershave. They evaporate quickly but will form the first impression of the fragrance.
MIDDLE NOTES
Often referred to as heart notes, appears once the top notes disappeared. Considered to be the main body of the scent. Usually well rounded and last longer than the top notes.
BASE NOTES
Are whats left at the end. This is the smell you remember the most. The base notes are the longest lasting. Mixing with the middle notes to create the full body of the perfume or aftershave.
FRAGRANCE FAMILIES
FRESH
usually comprises of citrus,water and green notes.They have zesty and vibrant smells. citrus based fragrances are usually created with lemon,mandarin and bergamot. Water fragrances are made with aquatic notes. Fresh green fragrances are reminiscent of herbal and leafy scents for a crisp,uplifting smell created with notes of lavender,rosemary and basil.
FLORAL
Most popular and broad family. Sweet and flowery scent will belong to this family. Notes such as roses,jasmine,lillies and peonies. These scents can range from light to delicate to more complex and intense.
ORIENTAL
Warm,sweet and a little spicy. A more luxurious family. Oriental perfumes vary from floral, soft and woody scents. Fragrances fron this family are rich and sensual (fragrances and aftershaves). Interesting notes of cardamon,cinnamon and vanilla alongside the likes of jasmine, orchid and orange blossom.
WOODY
Warm family with a mysterious and captivating scent that is often favoured amongst aftershaves in particular. Wood based fragrances smell like cedarwood,sandalwood,vetiver and amber. Excellent choice for evening wear. Woody fragrances are split into mossy woods with an earthy,sweet undertone and dry wood which often have a smokey leathery scent.
